Spanish Lessons

Robert has been busy. Each night he stays up late studying Argentine Spanish. He watches Argentine television in order to master conversational complexities. Spanish, as it is spoken in Argentina, like the people themselves, is nuanced and subdued.

Visiting

Last night the Pierce family was fortunate enough to be host to Carlos Gutierrez, who was in San Francisco on one of his many business trips. Carlos came by after work for dinner, wine and lively conversation about marriage, politics and hopes for the future. We learned that Carlos's parents, Lupe and Delia, had their 50th wedding anniversary last week. Congratulations! We heard that Kelly is doing well with her involvement with the local school board. We cherish our friendship with Guitierrez's and hope to spend lots of time with them in the upcoming years.

buildOn Presentation at Adobe San Jose

Catarina Schwab, Vice President, buildOn, was kind enough to visit with Robert's friends and colleagues this week at the Adobe Systems headquarters in San Jose. Catarina made a presentation about buildOn, the global non-profit organization with educational programs in the US and abroad. Robert and Mira have partnered with buildOn to fund and construct a two room schoolhouse in Nicaragua later this year. Please take a look at this presentation, including the last few slides that discuss buildOn's activities in Nicaragua and Robert and Mira's Mustardseed Schoolhouse Project.

Brunch with Gunar and Phaedra

Robert and Rory met Gunar and Phaedra for brunch this morning at the Axis cafe. Gunar is up to some interesting business lately, which makes for good conversation. The kids played outside the restaurant in the wet. Robert is having mixed results using one of his old Nikon lenses on his cheapo digital slr. Trying to remember how to manually focus. The weather is great when it stops raining.
