The Second Amendment
Recently, the Second Amendment of the US Constitution has been the subject of stimulating and lively discussion at the Pierce household. As has the Heller decision of 2008.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Forget a ban on handguns. How about a ban on commas and random capitalization?
Wannabe editors, make your choice:
A. The right of the people to keep and bear arms of the type traditionally used for military service shall not be infringed.
B. The right of the states to allow citizens to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
C. The right of the people to keep and bear arms as a part of their service in a state-organized militia shall not be infringed.
D. The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
E. The right of the people to keep and bear the type of arms traditionally used by people when they join a militia shall not be infringed.
F. The right of the people to keep and bear the type of arms that are popularly used by people at the time for self protection shall not be infringed.
G. The right of the people to keep and bear the type of arms that are popularly used by the people at time for any reason shall not be infringed.
H. The right of the people to keep and bear arms of the type that are not banned by the government shall not be infringed.
I. The right of the people to keep and bear arms of the type allowed them by the states shall not be infringed by the United States government.
