Batmobile

Just so you know, the original Batmobile sold at auction last Saturday for 4.62 million.  Umm. Dollars.

Storytelling

Robert lets Rory listen to audiobooks before going to sleep. Rory likes to listen with a headset, and will usually listen for an hour before falling asleep. He gets up the next day and sometimes tells us about the story. Most remarkable are the books read by authors.  Sometimes very famous books by famous authors, telling Rory stories at night.  Robert thinks this is magic.

Our favorites are The Fantastic Mr. Fox, read by Roald Dahl; The Trumpet of the Swan, read by E.B. White;  Treasure Island, read by Alfred Molina; and Indian In the Cupboard, read by Lynne Reid Banks.

Very cool.

Largest Known Structure in the Universe

4 billion light years across.

All I can really say is that I hope one of my children is someday smart enough to  understand this description of this thing.

Kiss My Ace: Scotts Valley

Further to the post of 1/5/13, Robert's doubles team on the Kiss My Ace squad captured a win against Scotts Valley Swim and Racket Club last Wednesday night. Enquiring minds . . .

US Ranks First in Death by Violence

According to the National Academy of Sciences, the US ranks first (by a wide margin), among nations with developed economies, in deaths caused by violence.

Teather Ball

Robert is sitting in the park contemplating the simplicity, beauty, and value of the teather ball. He had not seen one in about 35 years and Rory is swinging away. It teaches the foundational elements of all ball sports and of physics. Perfect. Whoever invented it is a genius.

Team Kiss My Ace

Robert was happy to have Mira, Rory, and Cadie in the stands rooting him on as the men's combo 7.5 team he is on battled it out against Scott Valley Tennis and Swim Club. Robert and Geoff Myers won their first set before the second set was called for rain when tied up at 5-5. They will pick up the match next week.
