La Paz to Carioco
I occassionally tell the story of taking the most dangerous road in the world in Bolivia from La Paz to the town of Carioco in the Andes. I've taken some hairy roads in the Himalaya and Andes, but this is the worst. I just found this on YouTube and am amazed that the road exists.
I'll definitely go back on a bike.

Christmas 2009

Today was a busy one. Rory and Mira enjoyed a Mexican breakfast of chorizo and eggs. They needed the energy because today was a busy.
After breakfast, we wrapped presents and did a little art painting for decorations. Then it was time to get ready for the Schwirtz' visit at 11. Robert prepared the tortilla soup lunch that most everyone seemed to enjoy. Then it was time to open presents. The stand out gifts for the day were the kiddie accordian and fireman's jacket for Rory, the new Dublin CD and putting green for Robert.
Then, we took a walk to the playground where Rory tested his skills navigating the monkeybars and rope ladders while dressed in fireman's jacket and helmet.
Back at home, Rory took a nap (in his fireman's jacket) while the rest of us played card games and spoke of Star Trek. We got on Skype for a quick conversation with Julie and Richard in Los Angeles.
Then came the caroling, accompanied by John on the Cello. Quite good. We really woke up the neighborhood.
Dinner was a success. Ham and yams and generous portions of wine, beer, homemade apple cider and Lillet. Pumpkin pie for dessert. All from Whole Paycheck. Very easy.
Rory looks like a natural on the putting green.
You can see some photos here.

Christmas Eve 2009
Today whole Pierce family stayed home, relaxing as much as possible and preparing for our Christmas day party tomorrow when we host the Schwirtz's at our home. Mira and Robert have each had a bit of a cold, and Rory of course is keeping up with the runny nose he's had for the last few months.
Robert and Rory took a long walk this morning, all the way to Mission and 26th Street, where they went to the market and bought all the ingredients for the tortilla soup that Robert made tonight for dinner. Rory rode on Robert's back in a kiddie backpack. The walk home was arduous.
The cleaning ladies showed up to clean the house, which was great because the refrigerator was in such need of a clean-up. Looks like we are all set for tomorrow.

The Sweets
Today the Pierce family was treated to a visit to San Francisco by the Sweet family, Philips and his parents who come to town occassionally from Wisconsin. We had a tasty breakfast at the Park Chow, wile Rory climbed everything in sight. These are some of our favorite people. The conversation is always honest, reflective and intellectual. Thanks, guys. We hope to visit you some day in Wisconsin!
